CASE STUDY — 02 / DEVELOPER TOOL — Jul 2024
1,000+ snippets, instant search, zero backend — your code never leaves the device.

Every developer leaks snippets across gists, notes apps, Slack DMs and random text files. Cloud snippet tools fix that by asking you to hand your code — and your habit of pasting secrets — to a third party. I wanted instant, private, offline-first storage with search that keeps up with typing.
Client-side storage is a design problem, not a limitation. The data model had to stay fast past a thousand entries, search had to feel instantaneous, and persistence had to survive schema changes without a migration ceremony.
Everything lives in a structured localStorage schema with versioned keys, queried through an in-memory index rebuilt on load. Filtering runs across language, category and tags; the search box re-ranks on every keystroke against the in-memory index — no network round trip anywhere in the hot path.
1,000+ snippets searched on every keystroke with tag, language and category filtering — responses land in the same frame as the input.
Structured persistence with migration-safe keys — the store evolves without stranding user data.
No server, no accounts, no telemetry. Data never leaves the device, which is the entire point of the product.
Capture, tag and retrieve snippets without touching the mouse — built for the speed developers actually work at.
